  • ·  __Accept that the Deutsch Drahthaar is without question the correct breed of dog for you and your lifestyle?
  • __Take full responsibility for this dog and all its needs for the next 10-15 years?
  • __Invest the considerable time, money and patience it takes to train the dog to be a good companion? (A well-trained dog is no accident.)
  • __Provide adequate housing, safe exercise areas and proper socialization for the dog?
  • __Train and test the dog in the Verein Deutsch-Drahthaar? (Every breeder wants their puppies tested.)
  • __Make sure the dog gets enough attention and exercise? (Drahthaar puppies need time outside, every day!)
  • __Spend the money it takes to provide proper veterinary care, including but certainly not limited to: vaccines, heartworm testing as well as preventative and annual check ups?
  • __Feed the dog a premium dog food recommended by the breeder? (You wouldn’t put regular gas in your Ferrari, would you?)
  • __Become educated about the proper care of the DD and correct training methods?
  • __Have access to adequate and suitable grounds for training and hunting your dog?
  • __Have access to furred and feathered game for the proper exposure of your puppy?
  • __Keep the breeder informed and up to date on the dog’s accomplishments and problems?
  • __Take your questions to the breeder or other appropriate professional before they become serious problems?
  • __Continue to accept responsibility for the dog despite inevitable life changes such as new babies, kids going off to school, moving or returning to work?
